Sneak Peak: Baja 500 Project

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

A little while ago, I mentioned we were working on a 20-minute athlete profile of Baja 500-competitor Gustavo Vildosola Jr for Redbull. Here’s a little sneak peak!

Special thanks to FLF filmer Greg, who actually rode in a chase truck for the entire Baja 500…. that’s 500 miles off-road, folks! I was dying to ride in the chase truck, too. Now that I watch the footage though, I’m guessing I would have been pretty sick. That’s some crazy driving!

It’s gonna be a fun documentary, and I’m looking forward to posting the finished project in July. Danny May’s been cuttin’ away at it in the last 2 weeks, logging footage and putting together the rough assembly. Jerry and I just got to watch a rough, first 12 minutes or so today. It’s lookin’ good!

Off to the races

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

FLF Films is headed to the Baja today!  It’s Baja 500 time, and one of our filmers will be there embedded with one of the most respected, venerated teams there - Vildosola Racing - for a 20-minute athlete profile about Gustavo Vildosola Jr.

It’s a pretty cool story… “Tavo” comes from an incredible racing legacy.  His father is a world-renowned desert racer, and Tavo’s already made a name for himself at the young age of 27.  Check out this little video (NOT made by FLF) showing one of their vehicle tests in San Felipe.  Pretty badass!

Jerry will head down to San Diego to film more interview material and capture some beautiful action footage with Tavo next week. Stay tuned… The completed athlete profile should be ready in July!

When we’re not shooting

What goes on at a production company when there’s no production?

Pre-production and post!

We’re exactly two weeks away from our next shoot: 3 national toy commercials.  I’m deep in pre-pro at the moment… putting crew on hold, checking out locations, working with our storyboard artist, and having lots and lots of phone conversations.

In the meantime, Jerry’s been working on post-production for 3 exciting projects we recently shot.  We’ll post more on each of these later, but basically one’s a fundraising piece for a cancer center, one’s a “winter update” video for a massive property in the Tahoe area, and the third is a Western short film we just wrapped, called “The Sierra.”

Mike the Intern and Ryan (All-Around Dude) are helping me out with revising and formatting storyboards today.  For commercials, storyboarding is a time consuming process!   They’re critical in getting everyone (clients, licensors, producer, director, and crew) on the same page, and they require lots of attention to detail.  This past summer, when we were in pre-production for 5 Hannah Montana spots, Mike did weeks and weeks of storyboard revising and reformatting for me.

Anyway, that’s what’s up at FLF headquarters today.   Even when we’re not shooting, we somehow manage to stay crazy busy!

Take one…

Welcome to the FLF Films blog!

We’re a production company based in Reno, NV, founded by veteran filmmaker Jerry Dugan in 1996. I’m FLF’s producer, Erika. Although the crux of our business is commercials, we love getting our hands dirty with all sorts of filmmaking… From narrative projects, to documentaries, music videos, and even a recent commissioned museum art-piece.

People are always asking us where we are and what we’re doing, so we thought it would be fun to document our adventures with this blog. We hope you’ll make this a regular stop - to check out what we’re working on, drop a comment here or there, and keep up with the FLF posse.

Stay tuned!
